The defendant confessed to 17 charges at the courthouse on Friday

A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer program in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.

The man conducted a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor explained objects including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson alerted the police about his worries.

She said Ruben proceeded to play the "treat game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she added.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The prosecutor explained the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.

She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a area of five youngsters.
